(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the series finale of “Game of Thrones”)
One week after airing its series finale, “Game of Thrones” took a victory lap with HBO’s Sunday debut of “Game of Thrones: The Last Watch,” a two-hour documentary about the making of the show’s final season — and Kit Harington’s tears.
Included among the many behind-the-scenes glimpses was Harington’s emotional reaction to discovering his character Jon Snow would kill Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in the very last episode, during the “Game of Thrones” cast’s Season 8 table read in Belfast, Ireland.
Even though Kit had said during previous interviews he’d gone into the final-season group read without having looked at any of the scripts, it’s still shocking to see just how visibly distraught he is over Daenerys’ death at Jon’s hand, when “GoT” executive producer Bryan Cogman reads off the stage directions.
Don’t worry, Clarke is right there to attempt to comfort her co-star with some awkward facial expressions from across the table.
See Harington’s reaction below.

“Game of Thrones: The Last Watch” comes from filmmaker Jeanie Finlay, who was “embedded on the set” for a year “chronicling the creation of the show’s most ambitious and complicated season.”
Made with unprecedented access, “Game of Thrones: The Last Watch” is an up-close and personal report from the trenches of production, following the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.
Much more than a “making of” documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world – and then have to say goodbye to it.
